The Revenants bring home Division 3 Title in first season
The Fairford and Lechlade Revenants (U15) have won the NWYFL Div 3 title in their first league season.
The team is newly formed of local boys many of whom have not played much competitive football previously or have had mixed experiences in the past and were returning to try the “beautiful game” for a second time. What the boys may have lacked in football experience they more than made up for in commitment, graft and tenacity. A tough return fixture away to local rivals Highworth proved to be the turning point of the season. On a day of a howling gale saw the Revenants 2:0 down at half time, yet a second half “Lazarus-like” comeback secured the win 2-3 and epitomised the boy’s belief in each other and their collective desire to bring the title to Fairford.
The team was generously sponsored by eBECS, a DXC Technology Company, and supported by Bibury Football Club, who generously allowed the boys to train under the lights through the dark days of winter.
Special thanks to the parents and supporters of this team – without whom this would not have been possible, to the hard-working coaches Marc Cornwell, Nigel Dodds and Graham Merrington and to the enthusiastic assistance of Alex Griffith, Lawrence Merrington and Fairford Town regular, Charlie Bailey.
The boys are looking forward to next season to test their mettle in Division 2, continue following “the plan” and deliver more success on their footballing journey at Fairford.
